$10,000 for Bringing Back the VR Experiences That Started it All

WEARVR is launching a brand new competition aimed at seasoned virtual reality developers, which challenges them with updating their original Oculus Rift DK1 and DK2 demos, games and experiences and bringing them back for the latest Oculus headset.

Your DevKit Content

It’s fair to say that the Oculus Rift kick started our renewed interest in the world of virtual reality. A significant part of this was driven by the experiences that early visionaries and pioneers created for the exciting new VR hardware.

As we looked at all the DK1 and DK2 content that was created, we were amazed at how much of it there was, as well as the sheer quality and entertainment value these demos, games and early experiences could boast.

But as support for the early devkits naturally erodes, we want to help developers maximize the potential of that early hard work. Which is why we’re launching the WEARVR Remastered Competition.

Bundles

Here’s where things get even more interesting. In order to maximize the work you’ve put into these demos, games, apps and experiences, you’ll have an opportunity after the competition for your games to be featured in bundles of remastered content for our tens of thousands of VR users to buy alongside your individual game listing.

These bundles will be categorized and organized depending on the entries we receive, so that’s all yet to be determined. But once compiled, the bundles will become available at very affordable prices and could be a great way to further monetize your work, possibly for the first time.

So even if you don’t win the grand prizes, you still win by getting your existing content back out to a lot more VR users than it originally had!

Remastered Competition

If you created content for the early Oculus developer kits, we’re asking you to remaster it for the Oculus CV1. What do we mean by remastering? Here’s a guideline:

  • Absorb, enjoy and agree to the terms & conditions.
  • Original content must have been made available for the Oculus DK1 and/or DK2.
  • Your Remastered Competition entry must work on the Oculus Rift CV1.
  • Your entry can also be remastered for the HTC Vive or other contemporary VR platforms as well, but must include the CV1.
  • The entry must include some manner of enhancement over the original (visuals, audio, controls, content, etc) that makes it contemporary with new releases on the Oculus platform.

And we’re offering some great prizes to the best updates!

Prizes

Remastered offers up to $10,000 in cash prizes, split between the four best pieces of remastered VR content, with individual prizes of no less than $2,500.

As we evaluate the entries we’ll be looking at which categories emerge, and awarding the prize money to the best of the best in each section.

How to Enter the WEARVR Remastered Competition

To enter, simply fill in the form below and then get to work on remastering your DK content! Also, please ensure that you’re registered for a WEARVR Developer Account, as you’ll need that when it comes time to send in your entry to the Remastered Competition. As soon as you’ve submitted your Remastered content, it can go live on the app store and start earning you money!

Note that your Developer Account must be approved by WEARVR, so make sure you’re signed up and ready before the submission deadline! You could even do that now, if you don’t have a Developer Account already. Then when it’s ready, simply submit it to the WEARVR app store!

WEARVR Remastered Competition submissions must be live on the WEARVR apps store no later that 12PM, 1st May, 2018 (BST).
